While discarding is our favorite way to get rid of losers, when we are forced to discard and it’s not helping us, it sucks! Frequently on defense, when declarer starts running a long suit and we have to discard, we have to decide what we need to keep and what we can afford to get rid of. Information from the auction can help us and so can the concept of keeping parity. We will look at both on this hand and then examine a potential grim ending where we are squeezed and there is no right answer.
