When we don’t have a major-suit fit, we look to play in notrump. To bid notrump, we need a specific point range, and in a competitive auction, and if we are the first person in our partnership to bid notrump after the opponents have bid, we need a stopper. If we can’t bid notrump because we don’t have the strength or we don’t have the stopper, we need to determine if we can bid a minor.
