Overcalling a Suit: (Part 13 of 13) Advancer Without a Fit – Too Strong
When we don’t have a major-suit fit, we look to play in notrump. To bid notrump, we need a specific point range, and in a competitive auction, if we are the first person in our partnership to bid after the opponents have bid a suit, we also need a stopper. Sometimes, instead of being too weak too bid notrump, we are too strong. If we can’t bid notrump, then we look to see if we can bid a minor and the best thing about a new suit is that it’s forcing! It’s important to remember that the notrump point ranges are different for advancer than for responder.
